Life Lesson #100 : Losing Weight Part 2
So how did I manage to lose 85lbs and keep it off? Ahh, the Million dollar question. My answer has many layers, but like I said in Part 1, it didn’t start with food.
It started with Awareness. Now, I don’t want to just throw this term around like it’s a fad or something easy to implement, especially because I feel that most people already believe they are aware, and that they are in control of their thoughts. Ha! Looking back at my 230lb obese, unhappy self, I remember thinking I knew everything. Boy, was I delusional. The reality was that I had no idea how powerful and relentless the Tyrant inside my mind had become. I was not in control, and that was why I joined the millions of people in the world that are living each day under the protection of the almighty DENIAL system. I talk ALL about Awareness and how I began to learn this skill in the first episode of my podcast COMING SOON!! SO, what did awareness do for me? Well, becoming conscience of my thoughts, beliefs and emotions allowed me to stop punishing and start healing. I began to SEE, and then began to forgive. Forgiveness, for me, is the ability to let go and free yourself from the tyrant that stands in our way. Yes, we are the only ones standing in our way. So, I went deep and took time to understand why I was holding onto suffering. The pain that I was choosing to keep close. The pain that a part of me loved and identified with. And then I began to forgive. Everything and everyone.
BUT it wasn’t like I just woke up one day and said “oh hey Elisa, I forgive you”. It was a process, and only when I became aware, was I able to be fully present, be fully responsible for myself and then fully committed to healing.
So what does this have to do with losing weight? Well, letting go definitely makes you feel lighter!! It’s something I practice daily. Awareness is the foundation to making better, conscience health decisions. It was the seed in becoming a stronger, more confident version of myself.
