This form and this glaze is one of our favourites to craft at the studio. ▫▫▫
We grew up in houses where a cup was almost always accompanied by a saucer. ▫▫▫
In most Maharashtrian and Gujarathi homes, the 'bashi' or 'rakabi' (saucer) is perhaps one of the most used forms - right from sipping hot tea that's poured into it (that has to be done with the right noise!), serving snacks, to using it as a lid for various other utensils - it's multipurpose and rather indispensable. ▫▫▫
Perhaps the advent of mugs made the saucer take a bit of a backseat in our homes today, but we still love crafting this classic form, albeit adding a bit of our cleaner lines aesthetic to it - and we love how our glazes make an almost old fashioned form seem really beautiful and contemporary! ▫▫▫
And we're particularly pleased with the fact that two of these sets are now in the home of one of Japan's coolest master potters' - Euan Craig! :) ▫▫▫
