🔊🔊sound on to hear my perfect mum "no! Noise". Basil wasn't home 2 mins when he tried to pull out his stitches under the guise of cleaning. This is why you have to be so vigilant after surgery. He's now bandaged over.
So it's bad news I'm afraid - but there's still room to be positive.
The opened wound was likely not because Basil opened it 😞 The tumour that was removed a couple of weeks ago looked malignant & the vet did tell me that. Today he said once he got inside, he saw necrosed tissue & some suspicious tissue. Rats are too small to take out the 2cm of surrounding tissue that a vet would remove on a cat or dog with a malignant tumour apparently. He said it would be half a rat. It seems the tumour regrew quickly & pushed against the skin - the weakest area burst. The vet has removed muscle, even all the way into Basil's leg, there wasn't much else to take because he took all the surrounding fatty tissue last time. There's a very good chance the tumour will regrow even faster again & if that's the case, third time, the vet can't do anything because there's nothing else to remove, I can't keep putting Basil under to trim the tumour every 1-3 weeks or however (not) long it takes. So Big Baz may be a dead rat walking.
I am choosing to be positive but I understand the reality. There's also a chance the tumour just won't grow back. Or if it does, perhaps it will be slow. Truth can be stranger than fiction.
Floki is nearly 3.5 years old & is in no mood to die, so I don't know what to do with him if he ends up alone. He doesn't want snuggles, so it's not like I can actually spend a lot more time with him. I can give him more pats more often, but he's moody about them.
Anyway! It is what it is. .
