Left this anonymous since I wasn't sure if the gentleman wanted to be identified. We were at a networking event and a guy who was previously running for a government position said this to us...something we'll never forget. His whole life was dedicated to politics and "doing good", he put in his time to climb the political ladder. He made the biggest speech of his career speaking about the ideals and good he planned on spreading, everyone cheered. As soon as he stepped off of the podium a higher up pulled him aside and praised him saying "you've got big things coming!". In the next sentence he proceeded to say all he would have to do, to run for the coveted position his whole life led up to, was make a statement going against what he believed in. Bothered and confused he went to bed angry, woke up, and asked himself why am I asking for permission? Why can't I just go out and make the world a better place for everyone? From that day on he stopped asking for permission, pursued an entrepreneurial venture in which he only employs ex-convicts and he is truly making a difference. This is the power of business, you can make a difference in hundreds or even thousands of people lives and the best part is - you DON'T HAVE TO ASK FOR PERMISSION.
