Fushimi Inari Shrine is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. The shrine sits at the base of a mountain also named Inari. It is famous for its
Torii gates that date back to 711 A.D. The grounds are said to hold over 10,000 Torii gates. Each gate has been donated by a company or organization giving thanks for their prosperity and in hope of good fortune in the future. The hike through the gates and up the top of the hill, takes about 2 hrs. The view on top overlooks beautiful Kyoto.
